Qualifications

 

He studied for the B.Sc degree (Botany, Zoology) at the University of the North (UNIN, now Limpopo), and then enrolled for an M.B., Ch.B. with the Medical Faculty of the University of Natal. In 1972 he abandoned medical studies in favour of voluntary exile. He holds a Certificate in the Management of Cooperatives (Cooperative College, Lusaka, Zambia), a Diploma in Rural Development Projects (The Pan-African Institute for Development, East and Southern Africa), Kabwe, Zambia, a Diploma in National Security (SA National Defence College), a Masters of Management, Human Resources (University of The Witwatersrand), and is currently on the Ph.D (Public Administration) with the University of Pretoria.

 

Overview of experience

 

He joined the African National Congress (ANC) and its military wing Umkhonto-We- Sizwe (MK). From a foot soldier Keith rose to become, in 1988, Deputy Chief of Military Intelligence, deputising Ronnie Kasrils, and in 1989, Chief of MI of that guerilla army. Keith worked closely with the late Chris Hani (then Chief of Staff), and Commander Joe Modise (late), the first Minister of Defence in democratic South Africa.

 

Keith Mokoape is:

 

  • Director and Chairman of Sigma Logistic Solutions, Intertechnic Contracting, Logtra Training Solutions, and Aretay Engineering, all defence-related companies.

  • Director of Singita Lebombo Private Game Lodge, in the Kruger National Park

  • Director of IFG Africa, advising non-tax paying institutions

  • Honorary Consul of Sierra Leone

 

He is a former:

 

  • Head of the IDT’s Drought Relief Programme,

  • Member of the Boards of Armscor,

  • LogTek Holdings and Nampak,

  • Councillor of the University of Limpopo, the Southern African Wildlife College, the Institute of Directors (IoD) of Southern Africa, 

  • Chairman of the Northern Province (now Limpopo) Tourism Board,

  • Member of the Governing Council of the AHI business chamber, and

  • Trustee of the Capespan Foundation, advising on empowerment joint ventures between large fresh fruit growers and farm workers.

 

From 2003, he headed the South African Army Foundation, and as Major General, the South African Army Reserve. He retired from both in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He has been associated with IFG Africa since 2002, becoming Chairman of its Advisory Board in 2009.
